Once a year, Tucson holds the “Tucson Classic Car Show.” The event, which took place Oct. 18, is hosted by the Rotary Club of Tucson Foundation. I spoke with volunteer coordinator Davis White about the event: Jackson Melin: When did the event kick off? Davis White: We started the Tucson’s classic car show in 2007. JM: Was there any problems getting attention for the event? DW: We have over 600 volunteers that wanted to raise money and involve the community. We have numerous people that come in attendance and demonstrate commitment to our city and to make Tucson better. JM: Is there a vetting/screening process for the chosen cars? DW: The cars have to be pre-1999, unless they fit in a uniq...

“They’re Coming to Get You, Barbara!” — “Night of the Living Dead” finishes its run at PCC

By Rory Archer and Amira Shields Part of PCC’s “Night of the Living Dead” poster. TUCSON, ARIZ. — The Pima Community College Theatre program just closed its run of “Night of the Living Dead” on Oct. 26, after two weekends of showings. The play is based on the eponymous 1968 movie, created by George A. Romero and John A. Russo, following the tensions among a group of strangers sheltering together during a zombie outbreak. The play had two casts, the Russo and Romero casts, which swapped out nightly. Nearly 30 people worked on the production. For the play director and head of PCC’s theatre department, Chris Will, the show was an experiment in immersive set design. “I'm just at a point in my career where I've been directing for 18 years now, and I don't want to just do it ...

Flower Power

By Jackson Melin A hemp flower. Courtesy of Secret Nature blog. THC (delta-9-tetrahydrocannabinol) and CBD (cannabinol) are the two main compounds found in cannabis. THC is psychoactive, while CBD has pain relief properties. Marijuana can be used medicinally or recreationally. Forty states have legalized medicinal usage, while 24 states have legalized it recreationally. Three popular strains of cannabis include indica, sativa and hybrid. It can be molded in many forms: edibles, flowers, concentrates, topicals and oils. I myself started using medicinal marijuana in 2024 for chronic pain. It has worked great for managing the pain, reducing anxiety and improving my creativity. I asked two of my classmates (Rory Archer, 19, and Quinn Smalley, 32) about their THC and CBD ...

Spring Registration Began Monday, Nov. 10

By Diedra Eby PCC's homepage for all things Spring 2026 semester. Photo from PCC website. See here for more dates and information. Spring 2026 registration began yesterday, Nov. 10. Even though we’ve got weeks to go yet on this semester, it’s time to start thinking about what classes you’ll take next semester. Some of you have already worked this out. Others might need inspiration. Here are some interesting ideas: Why not consider CIS 288: Fundamentals of Cybersecurity? This computer information systems class is an “introduction to cyber security policy, doctrine, and operational constraints. It includes a broad survey of networking principles, cybersecurity concepts, tools, technologies, and best practices. The class also includes hands-on activities to enhance familiarity w...

The Witching Weekly: 11/7

By Ruby Maldonado Hey, everyone! Welcome back to The Witching Weekly! I hope you all had a great Halloween, or Samhain celebration last week! I’d love to hear about it! Also, if anyone has suggestions for recipes, spells or tarot spreads, let me know! This week, I wanted to share something that I don’t use as much, but maybe you can find it useful. Sigils are really easy to make and use, and they can serve nearly every purpose! You can use a sigil wheel or the word method, or look up a specific sigil if you so please. They can be used in hairbrushes or on lipstick, in notebooks or showers/baths, clothing tags, literally anything. There are just as many ways to activate them, like burning a piece of paper or a leaf with the sigil written on it, crossing it out or tearing it, writi...

The Reason Why SNAP Benefits Were Suspended

By Joseph Cunnigham Photo of the US Capitol by Eric Lee/Getty Images The government has been shut down now for more than 4 weeks. The government shut down when congress was unable to come up with a new spending plan to be signed into law. Specifically in the senate, Republicans were unable to secure the 60 votes necessary to pass the GOP spending bill. This was because democrats want the GOP bill to include extensions to crucial tax credits for medicare. These tax credits under the Affordable Care Act are estimated to help upwards of 4 million Americans keep their insurance, as many of these people make too much for medicare, however not enough for full-premium insurance.  The elderly would be hurt worse with insurance premiums increasing with age due to increased health ...
