The wait is finally over for K-pop fans around the world as BTS successfully reunites with the release of their fifth studio album, “ARIRANG.” The live event in Seoul's Gwanghwamun Square, which marked a major global comeback, had approximately 104,000 in-person attendees despite only 22,000 winning tickets. An estimated 300 million people tuned in through Netflix, and the event was broadcast across 190 countries.  The album became the most streamed K-pop album in Spotify history in just 24 hours, 110 million first day streams, set the highest first day sales (3.98 million copies) on Hanteo Chart, and achieved the biggest first da...

A party everyone is welcome to

By Natalia Serrano Activities held during the Mitski listening party at Heroes and Villains. Photo courtesy of Heroes and Villains. Since the rise of social media and streaming services, physical media has taken an unfortunate backseat. After we were all locked in our houses during COVID, the “listening party” had come back into popularity and is becoming more standard day by day.  I went to Heroes and Villains, a locally owned comic/game/record store, and spoke to one of the managers, Ofelia Ledesma, to get a little more insight into this popular event.  According to Ledesma, the listening party is an event hosted by Record Store Day (RSD). RSD is a company that works closely with record labels to help promote the release of a new album to the fans and general public....

Sex on Campus: Freebies and Fun Facts

By Diedra Eby Kedar Moye on West Campus checking out the “Pleasure Basket,” 2026. Photo by Diedra Eby. Sex is more important on the hierarchy of needs than self-esteem, status, or even freedom, according to Maslow.  Ask yourself: Why are you here at Pima Community College? For some of you, the answer is because your parents told you that you had to come here. For some of you, it’s to improve your self-esteem or your status with the education you’ll obtain.  Some of you will be reaching for the top rung of Maslow’s pyramid with the desire to become the most that you can become. That is self-actualization. Guess what? Sex comes before all of that. Therefore, it is natural to want to have, try to obtain, and seek out sex while attending college.  When you giv...

Requiem for horror: A detailed Resident Evil series recap

By Quinn Smalley It has been two years since the release of Resident Evil 4 Remake was released and it doesn’t seem like that universe’s struggles with Bioterrorism is subsiding anytime soon with the newest installment, Resident Evil 9 Requiem.  The series is well known for its gore, striking visuals, disturbing monster designs, iconic cast of recurring characters and its rich lore. Across eight, going on nine mainline entries, the lore runs deep and with the newest entry seemingly attempting to bring the series full circle with the one of the settings being a ruined Raccoon City, the tragic viral zombie infested city where the series began.  With Resident Evil 9 (RE9) releasing at the end of February, for newcomers to the series, there’s a lot of ground lore-wise. For t...

Bruno Mars is “The Romantic”

By Natalia Serrano  Bruno Mars, accompanied by an unnamed mariachi in the “Risk It All” music video. Bruno Mars has graced listeners with his fifth studio album titled “The Romantic.” Mars last released a solo album in 2016, with a brief power duo era with Anderson .Paak in 2021. Since his last studio release, he has been staying busy. He has been a resident in Las Vegas since 2016, opened a lounge at The Bellagio hotel called The Pinky Ring, and has had great success with a couple of singles recently, with “APT.” with Rosé in 2024 and “Die With a Smile” with Lady Gaga in 2025.  In “The Romantic,” we definitely see the romantic side of Mars that we have known.  The album begins with “Risk It All,” which opens with a medley of trumpets and strings in a b...

Tucson Pride’s slow death and the void it left

By Quinn Smalley A fairground full of excited Tucson Pride festival goers in 2023. Photo taken from Gay Tucson’s website. Since 1977, Tucson has hosted its own annual Pride event, but in the wake of recent scandals, dwindling attendance and the challenging logistics of organizing such an event, Tucson Pride is officially cancelled.  Originally, Tucson Pride was scheduled for Nov. 22, 2025, but was unceremoniously pushed back to Feb. 21, 2026, citing scheduling conflicts with Tour De Tucson, high outdoor temperatures and difficulty securing parade permits as the reason for the delay.  Fast forward to Jan. 21, 2026, the Tucson Pride website changed, instead of information about their upcoming events, there’s notice of closure: “After thoughtful discussion and ca...

The Future of Pima Community College: A recap of PCC’s Planning Day event

By Diedra Eby Photo by Diedra Eby. “Transform lives through affordable education.”  According to Nicola Richmond, this should be Pima Community College’s mission statement.  Richmond is the Vice Chancellor for Strategic Analytics and Research for the college and she is currently leading the four year program to shape PCC’s future (2026-2040). The meeting, held in the Downtown Campus Amethyst Room, will “help influence where the College focuses its time, energy and resources over the next four years.”  These include foundational conditions, such as how affordable tuition is, how the college meets the basic needs of its students, including daycare for students with babies, safety of students on campus, student time relating to availability of classes, lea...

Win like a girl: How success in the Winter Olympics is reviving women’s sports

By Natalia Serrano Alysa Liu celebrates her Olympic win in Milano Cortina on Feb. 21, 2026. Photo by Matthew Stockman. Team USA’s female athletes have dominated the 2026 Winter Olympics. Women’s hockey and figure skating, in particular, have been hugely popular.  Team USA’s figure skating trio, the “Blade Angels,” has been a large part of the discourse this year for many reasons. Alysa Liu made history this year as the first US women's figure skater to win gold since 2002. Liu has been catapulted not only for her win, but for her pure joy in skating and how much the enjoyment of what you do can change so much in a performance. Another historic moment at the Winter Olympics comes from the women's hockey team. Laila Edwards, a defensive player for Team USA, became the fi...

How PCC staff members are juggling responsibilities during heightened ICE activity

By Illianna Valenzuela Flyers around PCC's campuses about "shelter in place" and "lockdown" protocols that are being referenced when considering ICE raids. Photo by Illianna Valenzuela. “We will be analyzing the aftermath of this for decades to come,” said Rowan Moore, Sociology teacher at Pima Community College. The increasing activity of the United States Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) around Pima Community College Campuses has been weighing on staff, potentially harming education and work experiences. PCC Chancellor, Dr. Jeffrey P. Nasse, recently gave a statement released on January 29, 2026 addressed to fellow colleagues. He said, “The college is closely monitoring developments and has plans and protocols in place for a range of potential scenarios.”  ...
