On Thursday, April 30, Pima Community College's Downtown Campus held their annual Student Media Celebration to acknowledge and award all of the content producers for The Pima Post. Between the fall 2025 and spring 2026 semesters, students enrolled in the JRN 185 and 285 courses produced almost 100 written, audio and visual stories, and that's not including contributions from the Student Media Club. In order to simulate real world expectations, students taking JRN 185 and 285 are supposed to submit at least 10 clips (or stories) per semester, with...

Sex on Campus: Behind Closed Doors

By Diedra Eby The "ominous cabinet" that contains safe sex products. Photo by Diedra Eby. Should condoms be kept behind closed doors? In my March 26, 2026 article, I made a point of letting Pima Community College students know how easily accessible condoms and other STI dams are on campus: “Condoms are conspicuously available right there at the front desk at the Downtown Campus location, so sex can be pregnancy and STI free. But you don’t have to be conspicuous. Just dip your hand in and grab a handful as you pass by in a smooth move no one will even notice. Only you and your partner need to know how prepared you are when the time comes for action. Other campuses are equally accommodating, as we’ll soon discuss.” At that time, although some of the displays were a bit more d...

The Pima Post Playlist: Week 4

Check out this week's lineup! Listen to and follow our playlist here for new music added each week. Song 18: "Animals" by Coast Modern. "This whole album is very nostalgic for me. They were one of my first concerts that got me into small venue and garage band-style performances. They're a great vibe!" - Emma Peterson Song 19: "I Love It" by Kylie Minogue. "Lately this track has been in my head and its excellence is understated! Kylie Minogue’s “DISCO” album, released in 2020 amid the pandemic, had a sort of energy and fabulousness we all desperately needed during lockdown. “I Love It,” the sparkly album track, is one of the best representatives of the album, “DISCO.” Minogue fully commits to the bit and unleashes all the trademark disco instrumentals while keeping the vibe fresh. An...

The annual Art 24 Competition gave out $1,000 in prizes to three multidisciplinary artworks created in 24 hours. Held at the West Campus for the third year, Pima Community College hosted this unusual art competition in which students form into groups to compete for one $800 prize and two $100 prizes.  Students formed groups of three or more and used at least three of seven art mediums: music, fashion design, creative writing, digital arts, visual arts, theater and dance. They were given a theme, “intimacy,” four prompts, all of which had to be used in the art work, and 24 hours starting on the evening of Thursday, March 26, to complete “...

Let’s go outside: Act One Culture Passes

By Natalia Serrano Act One Culture Pass stand at PCC West Campus. Photo by Natalia Serrano. As a Tucson native, I can say I have not experienced enough of the arts culture here in town. There are dozens of art and history museums in Tucson, and thanks to something offered at Pima, I was able to get out to the Tucson Museum of Art.  All PCC libraries offer what is called a Culture Pass. The Culture Pass is through an organization called Act One. Act One has been in operation since 2011, and was created because there was a need for more funding for field trips at Title 1 schools.  Their goal is to make sure Arizona schools and families get the experiences they deserve in their communities, primarily focusing on helping schools incorporate art experiences and field t...

By Diedra Eby Eligibility for Pell Grants can be found here. Screenshot taken from studentaid.gov. According to David Donderewicz, PCC’s Executive Director of Financial Aid and Scholarships, the college disbursed the fourth most Pell Grants in the state among public institutions.  The Office of Financial Aid and Scholarships (OFAS) states its mission “is to make college accessible to EVERY student.” So far this year, PCC has disbursed over 40 million dollars to more than 9,500 students with nearly 35 million of that money in the form of gift aid such as grants and scholarships.  Stateuniversity.com puts Pima Community College as among the ten largest community colleges in the nation “with an annual enrollment of over 75,000 students." The Future of Pima Community College: A recap of PCC’s Planning Day event

By Diedra Eby Photo by Diedra Eby. “Transform lives through affordable education.”  According to Nicola Richmond, this should be Pima Community College’s mission statement.  Richmond is the Vice Chancellor for Strategic Analytics and Research for the college and she is currently leading the four year program to shape PCC’s future (2026-2040). The meeting, held in the Downtown Campus Amethyst Room, will “help influence where the College focuses its time, energy and resources over the next four years.”  These include foundational conditions, such as how affordable tuition is, how the college meets the basic needs of its students, including daycare for students with babies, safety of students on campus, student time relating to availability of classes, lea...

How PCC staff members are juggling responsibilities during heightened ICE activity

By Illianna Valenzuela Flyers around PCC's campuses about "shelter in place" and "lockdown" protocols that are being referenced when considering ICE raids. Photo by Illianna Valenzuela. “We will be analyzing the aftermath of this for decades to come,” said Rowan Moore, Sociology teacher at Pima Community College. The increasing activity of the United States Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) around Pima Community College Campuses has been weighing on staff, potentially harming education and work experiences. PCC Chancellor, Dr. Jeffrey P. Nasse, recently gave a statement released on January 29, 2026 addressed to fellow colleagues. He said, “The college is closely monitoring developments and has plans and protocols in place for a range of potential scenarios.”  ...

A Call to Action: How Your Work Can Put the Community First at PCC

By Caroline Hansen Supporting the Learner: Building a Better PCC Experience When a person decides to go to college, it is one of the most important decisions they will make in their life. When a person is starting out at their local community college, they most likely have not led a privileged life. When an older person comes back to get a degree and they qualify for FAFSA, chances are they really need the financial aid and need to get that degree as quickly as possible.  There are many reasons students might experience financial hardship, especially coming back to school later in life. Maybe it was a car accident, a divorce, an injury, or a job layoff. Perhaps they were disenfranchised from their former job or their field has been taken over by AI. Chances are, they aren’t b...
