Mr. Stewart’s Legacy: A Passion for Film and a Commitment to Students

By Mike Korchmaros, Digital Film and Video student Updated: October 3, 2024 It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Mr. William Stewart (57) on Sept. 27, 2024. A beloved faculty member in our Digital Film and Video department, Mr. Stewart’s dedication to his craft, his passion for teaching and his commitment to his students made him an invaluable asset to our program. A native of Wellton, Arizona, Mr. Stewart pursued his academic interests in Aerospace Engineering at the University of Arizona. However, his true calling lay in the realm of the arts. He ventured to Los Angeles to pursue his filmmaking dreams, contributing to iconic blockbusters like Armageddon and Disney's Dinosaur as a miniature and special effects artist. Returning to Tucson, Mr. Stewart con...

AZ is a Swing State—Vote!

By Tae Esperanza Cooper The next President of the United States may be determined by a handful of votes in swing states—also known as battleground states, toss-up states or purple states—because they can be reasonably won by either Democratic nominee Kamala Harris or Republican nominee Donald Trump. This differs from red and blue states, where a specific side is supported more than the other. Arizona is a key swing state, along with Georgia, Michigan, Nevada, Pennsylvania and Wisconsin. Arizona voters will determine the state's direction in this 2024 Presidential Election. "Voting is a powerful way for students to shape their future and make their voices heard on issues that matter to them,” said Pima County Recorder Gabriella Cázares-Kelly, who coordinates voter registration in Tucs...

Addams Family Musical Delightfully Spooks at PCC’s Proscenium Theatre

By Steve Forrester If you have a taste for bizarre, spooky humor and appreciate stunning performances from your fellow students, The Addams Family - A New Musical delivered. The musical was held at the West Campus’s own Proscenium Theatre from April 18th through April 28th. The production was quite impressive, as the PCC drama department brought in a gifted director named Jose “Chach” Snook, who is a guest director of sorts, invited to helm this project by the PCC drama director. This guest director has quite an extensive background having worked in New York City on several plays in the Theatre District, as well as on several tours here in Tucson and other places of note. His credits also include a tour of Sweeney Todd in the 1990s, which appeared in a theatre in Park Mall.  ...

Review: Borderlands Theaters’ Antigona 3.0

By Zoe Stover PCC's very own Professor Marc Pinate took the stage in Antigona 3.0! After a semester of Pinate giving me a taste of the performing arts in THE105, I was thrilled to see him direct and act in this production. Antigona 3.0 was a bold choice. The story’s target audience is not the casual theatre viewer. An extensive background knowledge of the original Greek story and Borderlands Theaters’ spin-off is required to fully enjoy the show. The actors do mention the themes of the original tale in the very beginning, but it’s not deep enough to understand the symbolism embedded within the play. It’s disguised as a comedy bit, so the message is easily missed. If you haven’t seen Sophocles’ Antigone AND Borderlands' Antigone at the Border, this show might not be for you, w...

Sweet Tomatoes Exclusively Returns to Tucson

By Steve Forrester Between 2023 and 2024, over twenty different Tucson-area restaurants closed their doors. We’re happy to see that one restaurant has returned with their doors wide open, and not just returned to Tucson, but exclusively returned to our fair city. This restaurant is Sweet Tomatoes, which had its grand re-opening at Broadway and Wilmot on April 1st, 2024. At 11:00 a.m. on that drizzly Monday morning, a long line of guests showed up (the first in line arrived at least an hour early), and all applauded when the doors opened and the line began to slowly step inside the renovated restaurant. Everyone in line gave a sigh of relief because finally, a lost institution had been resurrected, just after Easter Sunday. The hostess and management gave everyone a warm, welcoming sm...
