They dribble it down the court and go up towards the basket. It’s good!  Now the other team has the ball, sprinting down the court, then hitting a three pointer. We’re all tied up now, and the ball’s in our hands. Mason Hunt dribbles down the court and passes to Brock Mendoza, but the clock is ticking down with 30 seconds left. Brock throws the ball up in the air and Isaac Johnson takes it and slam dunks it into the basket. It’s good! Pima Baseball Uses Walk-Off Homerun and Shutout to Sweep Double-Header vs Mesa 

By Joel Herrera Pima starting pitcher Luis Pablo Navarro (5) and first baseman Nolan Ganter (34) after their 6-5 win over Mesa CC in the first of two games on April 8.   Game one featured a walk-off three run homerun from Nolan Ganter, game two resulted in a 5-0 shutout and Pima Baseball completed the season sweep of Mesa Community College as they took both games on Tuesday, April 8.   The first of the two games would only be seven innings due to the double header. Mesa CC jumped out to an early 1-0 lead in the top of the first and the Thunderbirds would add on in the second inning taking a 2-0 lead.  Pima cut into the deficit in the bottom half of the second thanks to a run batted in in-field single from catcher Ernie Alvarez. A Look at Pima’s Best: CohenJ Gonzalez

By Joel Herrera Photo of CohenJ Gonzalez  With how dominant and successful Pima Men’s Basketball was during the 2024-2025 season, it's impossible to not talk about starting point guard and Arizona native CohenJ Gonzalez. The 5’9’ sophomore out of Gilbert, Arizona made his name known nationally in his second year of action with the Aztecs.  Gonzalez averaged 18.4 points per game, 3.4 rebounds per game and 5.1 assists per game, while also shooting a shade over 46% from the floor. These numbers earned Gonzalez All-ACCAC First-Team honors and led him to being named as region player of the year.  The secret behind Gonzalez’s accolades is simple: “I definitely like to take naps on game days…I’m not very superstitious so I don’t have a set routine,” Gonzalez said.  ...

Pima Men’s Basketball Advances in NJCAA Tournament with Win Over South Mountain

Following their perfect regular season, Pima Men’s Basketball continued their winning ways in their opener of the NJCAA Division 2 Men’s Basketball tournament. The Aztecs knocked off region opponent South Mountain Community College with a final score of 80-55 Wednesday, March 5 at the Pima West Gym. Pima Men’s Basketball Uses Dominant Presence Down Low to Cruise by South Mountain Community College 

By Joel Herrera Pima’s Wes Ball and South Mountain’s Jayven Driscoll tip off the two teams during Feb.15 afternoon matchup On Feb. 15, Pima Men’s Basketball extended their winning streak to 27, handling the South Mountain Community College Cougars with ease with an ending score of 111-54. Pima, now 27-0, remains perfect on the year with only three regular-season games remaining.  Highlights of the game included Wes Ball’s double-double and Gabe Oldham adding more dominance inside. Ball’s 17 points and 10 rebounds along with Oldham’s 14 points were accompanied by CohenJ Gonzalez, Max Majerle and Cooper Jones (11). Photo by Manuel Zepeda Pima Men’s Basketball remains undefeated as they took care of business versus Mesa Community College on Wednesday, Jan. 29 with an ending score of 111-76. Mason Hunt scored 15 points off the bench. Max Majerle added another 15. Now 23-0 (11-0 conference), the Aztecs remain with only seven regular season games in search of an undefeated regular season.  With those 111 points, this win marks the 13th game of the season where Pima reached the century mark in scoring. Pima Soccer Players Chosen as Players and Goalkeepers of the Week

Arizona Community College Athletic Conference has chosen Pima Community College women’s soccer players Jessica Alvarez and Adriana Pacheco as players and goalkeepers for the week of Sept 17-23. Alvarez, a freshman midfielder, was selected ACCAC Division II Player of the Week while Pacheco, a sophomore goalkeeper, was named ACCAC Division II Goalkeeper of the Week. Alvarez scored three goals and had one assist for the week. She netted two goals in Pima’s win over GateWay Community College and scored one goal in their win at Paradise Valley Community College. Alvarez has played in five games and has eight points. Pacheco played 104 minutes at the net giving up no goals and had four saves. The Aztecs outscored their opponents 13-2 last week.
