Sex on Campus: Behind Closed Doors

By Diedra Eby The "ominous cabinet" that contains safe sex products. Photo by Diedra Eby. Should condoms be kept behind closed doors? In my March 26, 2026 article, I made a point of letting Pima Community College students know how easily accessible condoms and other STI dams are on campus: “Condoms are conspicuously available right there at the front desk at the Downtown Campus location, so sex can be pregnancy and STI free. But you don’t have to be conspicuous. Just dip your hand in and grab a handful as you pass by in a smooth move no one will even notice. Only you and your partner need to know how prepared you are when the time comes for action. Other campuses are equally accommodating, as we’ll soon discuss.” At that time, although some of the displays were a bit more d...

The Pima Post Playlist: Week 4

Check out this week's lineup! Listen to and follow our playlist here for new music added each week. Song 18: "Animals" by Coast Modern. "This whole album is very nostalgic for me. They were one of my first concerts that got me into small venue and garage band-style performances. They're a great vibe!" - Emma Peterson Song 19: "I Love It" by Kylie Minogue. "Lately this track has been in my head and its excellence is understated! Kylie Minogue’s “DISCO” album, released in 2020 amid the pandemic, had a sort of energy and fabulousness we all desperately needed during lockdown. “I Love It,” the sparkly album track, is one of the best representatives of the album, “DISCO.” Minogue fully commits to the bit and unleashes all the trademark disco instrumentals while keeping the vibe fresh. An...

Pima County Community Libraries: Supporting and serving all communities

By Quinn Smalley Holly Schaffer. Photo courtesy of PCPL. We all know them, and they always seem to be flippantly used as a joke in our lives: “Go to the library and learn something,” “Go to the library and read a book.”  But when’s the last time you’ve been to the library? Admittedly, it’s been a very long time since I’ve set foot in one myself, which made me wonder, Where do libraries fit in our communities in 2026? So, I spoke to Holly Schaffer, communications specialist for Pima County Public Library, who informed me that there’s way more the library offers than just borrowing books and accessing a computer.  “Our goal is to reach as many people in our community all the way [across] 9,200 square miles. We have 27 locations; currently, two of them are under r...

R.L. Stine Captivates Fans at the 2026 Tucson Festival of Books

By Illianna Valenzuela Tucson Festival of Books 2026. Photo by The University of Arizona Press. The Tucson Festival of Books returned to the University of Arizona on March 14 and–15, 2026, bringing tens of thousands of readers to campus. Now in its 17th year, the free event drew about 135,000 attendees and featured more than 300 authors, turning the university mall into a busy, book-filled space.  Since its start in 2009, the festival has grown into one of the largest literary events in the country, centered on promoting literacy and access to books. One of the biggest highlights was R. L. Stine, best known for the Goosebumps series. His session, "Journey to the House of Shivers," filled quickly on Sunday afternoon, with students and longtime fans eager to hear from th...

Record Store Day in Tucson: A music lover’s holiday

By Natalia Serrano Inside Zia Records on RSD, April 18, 2026. Photo by Natalia Serrano. Record Store Day (RSD) is a celebration for physical media collectors that has been held twice a year for since 2008, once in April and once for Black Friday in November. Records, CDs, figurines and almost anything for a collector can be included in these events.  Most, if not all, of the hype from RSD is for the specialty pressings and new releases for varying genres, from experimental bands like Xmal Deutschland to large artists like Taylor Swift and Bruno Mars. Local companies celebrating RSD provide a page-long list of new releases for fans to look through and anticipate.  The event began in order to support independent record stores as opposed to larger providers like Tar...

In the Valley: A Cosmic Queer Abduction Film

By Quinn Smalley “They are among us, cruising us at the bar...” Official trailer for “In The Valley: A Cosmic Queer Abduction Film.” The vast and endless void of outer space has always fascinated humans. The possibility of not being alone ravishes us, and our imaginations try to break down the blurring mosaic hiding the visage of our intergalactic neighbors, if there are any.  The short film “In The Valley: A Cosmic Queer Abduction Film” asks, “what if the aliens were gay as fuck?” Jorgie Goico plays Josh, a shy but tenacious patron of the bar. Screenshot from “In The Valley: A Cosmic Queer Abduction Film.” We hear about alien abductions stories, all of them strange, hard to follow and completely unbelievable. That’s what my 28 minute trip with “In the Valley...

From TikTok to toy shelves: How viral products are changing small businesses

By Natalia Serrano  Mildred & Dildred storefront in Tucson, Ariz. Photo from Mildred & Dildred's Instagram. A sudden surge in demand for a viral toy has left shelves nearly empty at Mildred & Dildred, a locally owned toy store in central Tucson. The toy, called Needoh, has recently gained widespread attention online, turning a once-steady product into one of the shop’s most sought-after items. Viral trends like this are becoming more common, with social media driving spikes in popularity that can dramatically impact small businesses—sometimes overnight. Needoh, a stress-relief toy brand known for its squishy “Nice Cubes,” has been around since 2018. But only recently, after a viral video, has demand surged nationwide. Last update on Needoh stock i...

Song 8: "Come" by Namie Amuro. "Throwback to 2003, it’s late and you wake up with your gameboy advance on your face because you fell asleep gaming, and an episode of Inyuasha is just finishing up, you hear this iconic song. Namie Amuro is a Japanese pop star from Naha, Okinawa, Japan. With a career spanning 25 years, starting in 1992, Amuro has sold millions of records across Asia. She has since publicly retired in 2018, and has lived as a private citizen since. Only a few songs remain." - Quinn Smalley Song 9: "Bitter Sweet Symphony" by The Verve. "There's a part that says 'you're a slave to the money until you die' and it's ...
