Opinion: Was the hate “Bieberchella” received really necessary?

By Illianna Valenzuela I usually don’t write opinions, the only other one I had done was in high school maybe. But this was something I felt needed to be talked about, so let’s unpack Justin Bieber’s set at Coachella 2026. After watching videos from Instagram, reading comments on YouTube and even articles from Forbes and Vogue, there’s three main things to be discussed: When you should remove yourself from a situation. What qualifies as a “Coachella worthy” performance. How the burnout a person experiences can damage their mental health. First, it should be noted that Justin’s last major performance was September 6, 2022. He was in the middle of his Justice World Tour when he cancelled the remaining shows to focus on his mental health, deal with burnout, and all after b...

A Mariachi’s favorite weekend: Tucson International Mariachi Conference

By Natalia Serrano Mariachi Las Aguilitas de Davis, April 2025. Photo by Kevin Van Rensselaer.  Tucson's weekend full of beautiful mariachi music has celebrated its 43rd consecutive year.  Since 1983, the Tucson International Mariachi Conference (TIMC) has been one of the largest and longest-running Mariachi Conferences in the United States.  The TIMC hosts four events for the general public to attend and enjoy mariachi. At the root, they offer rigorous courses for mariachis and folklorico dancers to take. These classes range from level one to master's and have been serving performing youth in the community since their beginning.  Students in these courses are taught by professionals from Tucson and all over the world. Master's mariachi students get the chanc...

Sony stealthily rolls out controversial 30-Day Timer DRM

By Quinn Smalley Who really owns your games? Spoiler: It's not you! DRM notice on PlayStation Network. Screenshot by Quinn Smalley. In another boldfaced demonstration of corporate overreach, Sony has applied digital rights management, or DRM, to all future purchases, meaning you will need to have an internet connection in order to play the games you purchased.  Every 30 days, if you do not log into the PlayStation Network, you will be stone-cold locked out of the game. DRM is in place mainly to stop unauthorized copying of the game to mitigate piracy, but it just makes Sony look hostile to consumers. Users report that the license expiration date is masked in PS5 menus. Its presence has been confirmed via the removal of the PlayStation 5 CMOS battery and disconnecting the...

TUCSON — In a city known for its deep-rooted arts culture, the Tucson Poetry Festival (TPF) returned for its 43rd year with a new home at Pima Community College (PCC) and a theme that reflected the landscape itself: resilience. Set in the heart of the Sonoran Desert, this year’s festival challenged the idea of scarcity that is often associated with desert life, and instead celebrated the region and its artists, defining it by its abundance, endurance and creative vitality. This year’s festival, which commenced the weekend of April 25-26, received a grant from the Arizo...

In order to simulate real world expectations, students taking JRN 185 and 285 are supposed to submit at least 10 clips (or stories) per semester, with...

Sex on Campus: Behind Closed Doors

By Diedra Eby The "ominous cabinet" that contains safe sex products. Photo by Diedra Eby. Should condoms be kept behind closed doors? In my March 26, 2026 article, I made a point of letting Pima Community College students know how easily accessible condoms and other STI dams are on campus: “Condoms are conspicuously available right there at the front desk at the Downtown Campus location, so sex can be pregnancy and STI free. But you don’t have to be conspicuous. Just dip your hand in and grab a handful as you pass by in a smooth move no one will even notice. Only you and your partner need to know how prepared you are when the time comes for action. Other campuses are equally accommodating, as we’ll soon discuss.” At that time, although some of the displays were a bit more d...

The Pima Post Playlist: Week 4

Check out this week's lineup! Listen to and follow our playlist here for new music added each week. Song 18: "Animals" by Coast Modern. "This whole album is very nostalgic for me. They were one of my first concerts that got me into small venue and garage band-style performances. They're a great vibe!" - Emma Peterson Song 19: "I Love It" by Kylie Minogue. "Lately this track has been in my head and its excellence is understated! Kylie Minogue’s “DISCO” album, released in 2020 amid the pandemic, had a sort of energy and fabulousness we all desperately needed during lockdown. “I Love It,” the sparkly album track, is one of the best representatives of the album, “DISCO.” Minogue fully commits to the bit and unleashes all the trademark disco instrumentals while keeping the vibe fresh. An...

Pima County Community Libraries: Supporting and serving all communities

By Quinn Smalley Holly Schaffer. Photo courtesy of PCPL. We all know them, and they always seem to be flippantly used as a joke in our lives: “Go to the library and learn something,” “Go to the library and read a book.”  But when’s the last time you’ve been to the library? Admittedly, it’s been a very long time since I’ve set foot in one myself, which made me wonder, Where do libraries fit in our communities in 2026? So, I spoke to Holly Schaffer, communications specialist for Pima County Public Library, who informed me that there’s way more the library offers than just borrowing books and accessing a computer.  “Our goal is to reach as many people in our community all the way [across] 9,200 square miles. We have 27 locations; currently, two of them are under r...

R.L. Stine Captivates Fans at the 2026 Tucson Festival of Books

The Tucson Festival of Books returned to the University of Arizona on March 14 and–15, 2026, bringing tens of thousands of readers to campus. Now in its 17th year, the free event drew about 135,000 attendees and featured more than 300 authors, turning the university mall into a busy, book-filled space.  Since its start in 2009, the festival has grown into one of the largest literary events in the country, centered on promoting literacy and access to books. One of the biggest highlights was R. L. Stine, best known for the Goosebumps series. His session, "Journey to the House of Shivers," filled quickly on Sunday afternoon, with students and longtime fans eager to hear from th...
