The Witching Weekly: 10/31

By Ruby Maldonado

Hi everyone! Welcome back to The Witching Weekly! To those who celebrate, happy Halloween!! Every year now, I try to make a (somewhat) traditional Samhain dinner, and I’m really excited for this year. Samhain is a Pagan holiday starting on the night of October 31 to November 1, and it’s to mark the end of the summer and the entrance into a colder, darker time. The barrier between our world and the spirits’ world is thinnest on that day, and we use it to honor the spirits and people that have passed.

This year, I plan on making a sausage and fennel pasta, pear and pomegranate salad (which I made last year, too!) and apple cinnamon cheesecake. It takes almost all day to cook, so it’s perfect for dinner before trick-or-treating! I’ll link the recipes below if you want to check them out as well! I’ll also link the Wiccan cookbook I use for year-round meals and other holidays.

Our tarot spread for this week is a Low Energy Spread, and uses three cards. I wanted to use a deck I had never used before, and it ended up being Animal Tarot Cards by Doreen Virtue and Radleigh Valentine.

Now, let’s begin the reading!

  • Card 1: Why do I feel so tired?
  • Card 2: What is draining my energy?
  • Card 3: What can I do to make my energy flow again?

Card 1 is The Emperor. This card represents haphazard creation, chaos, passion and over-analyzing. You feel tired because you are stretching yourself too thin, and allowing no time for bouncing back. You put so much effort into things that don’t require it, or you do too much and use up all your energy on that.

Card 2 is the Eight of Spring. This card represents business, too much to do, juggling priorities, having to multitask and stress. Your energy is being drained by your overwhelming amount of work and stress, and an inability to manage it all. You are not incapable or bad at time management, you just haven’t found a way to balance your workload yet.

Card 3 is the Ten of Summer. This card represents the importance of family and community, trustworthy relationships and spending time with family and loved ones. The way to regain some of your missing strength is to spend time with people who can support you and lend you some of their energy. Go home. Go to a friend’s house. Don’t hole up and drown in work and stress, use your resources.

Our craft for this week is moon water! The next full moon is November 5, so you have time to prepare before them.

First, get a glass jar and a match. Swirl the match inside to cleanse the jar, then proceed to fill it with water (purified, lake/ocean, etc). Now, I’ve seen people make moon water during any moon phase, and while I’m sure you can, I grew up doing it during the full moon. Feel free to do whichever you like! After you have your jar ready, you can set it by a window with a clear view of the moon, or set it outside in the moonlight in a safe spot. Leave it there all night, and in the morning you can use it immediately or put a lid and save it for later. Some uses are: crystal cleansing, watering plants, putting it in cleansing sprays or floor washes, adding it to bath rituals or using it on your hair or face for beauty spells!

That’s it for this week, friends! I hope you found something to use this week, and happy Halloween!!
