Latinx: a cultural exchange

This year’s event, “A Celebration of Latinx History,” was held at the Downtown Campus on Sept. 26. Aztecs ousted in first round of playoffs

By KYLE MCDANIEL Pima’s season ended not in a fashion that they had hoped, losing in their first playoff match. This was the second consecutive year they lost in the first match. The Aztecs have some key players they will be losing due to the NJCAA rule, allowing for only two years of competition. Keeper Mackenzie Bernal and other sophomores that were key contributors were Kylee Martin, Paola Ruedaflores, Tayler Rinehart, Perla Blanco, Annalisa Verdugo and Mykayla Toth. Kylee Martin who played midfield was named first team all ACCAC/Region I after she started all 21 games. She also had five goals and one assist. Aztec’s fall out of the top five

By KYLE McDANIEL So far this season, Pima Community College has won 85 percent of its games for a record of 11-2, which currently has the team ranked No. 6 in the nation. When you average 3 goals a game and you concede under 1 goal a game, that’s a recipe for success. Aztec’s struggle to find the back of the net

The Aztecs are 1-2-2 over their last 5 games, giving them a 5-5-3 record for the season so far. Averaging only 1.38 goals a game this season is something Pima Community College needs to fix. Oct 2. By JOE GIDDENS The most British man who’s playing a Frenchman is slated to return to “Star Trek.” The trend of the reboot continues onward with Patrick Stewart’s announcement on that he will reprise the role of Jean-Luc Picard made famous on the small screen’s “Star Trek: The Next Generation” and its later film adaptations. Thoughts looking forward and back at his tenure. Perhaps the passage of time will curb the film’s portrayal of Picard as a tank top-wearing action hero and Picard now being portrayed by a 78-year-old man will return to being a subdued, thoughtful diplomat. There are no chips and guacamole here, but it is the closest thing you will get to eating at a taco stand in Mexico. In Tucson, Juanitos, which is located in a building with a purple exterior on the corner of Grant Road and 15th Avenue, is a great place to unwind and get a filling lunch or dinner made from scratch. Aztecs dig in for the long haul

By ARMANDO HARMON After a tough loss to a juggernaut of a team No. 8 South Mountain, the Aztecs looked to bounce back with a series of non-conference wins. The Aztecs took a little break from the desert heat and spent a weekend in the city founded by the Germans found in 1904. Aztecs devour their veggies

By HANK ROBICHAUD Pima Community College football team had its home opener on Sept. 29, defeating the No. 4 Scottsdale Artichokes. The Artichokes came into the game with a 4-0 record, while Pima came in 2-1. The Aztecs’ defense played great all night, however, and caused four turnovers. Sophomore Macarius Blount brought in two interceptions, while sophomore Christian Maddoux had one. By PARKER BROCK With STD rates in the United States rising to an all-time high, it’s more important than ever to stay safe in the sex. Pima Community College is not only a great learning environment but a social one as well. Students in more intimate classroom settings are more likely to develop relationships with fellow students, gaining friends and potentially dating partners. Though college-age students are mature enough to make the decision to have sex with consenting peers, the threat of potential exposure to STDs and unplanned pregnancies is often overlooked. Diseases such as gonorrhea and chlamydia have an active presence in the Tucson community. In 2017, BackroundChecks.org ranked Arizona 19th in the nation for STD rates.
