Aztecs Baseball Sweeps Paradise Valley CC For 10th Straight Win

By Raymond Suarez The Pima Community College baseball team (20-6, 13-5 in ACCAC) continued its hot streak on Saturday as the Aztecs scored 25 runs to overwhelm Paradise Valley Community College (2-23, 2-16). Freshman Jose Enriquez was a force at the plate as he finished the day 5 for 8 with seven RBIs and two runs scored. Sophomore Angel Ochoa (Canyon del Oro HS) was 5 for 6 with three RBIs and two runs while freshman Daniel Durazo (Salpointe Catholic HS) went 4 for 6 with two RBIs and a run. Freshman Bradon Zastrow and sophomore Noah Estrella (Flowing Wells HS) provided strong starts on the mound and picked up the wins. Aztecs Start Season Hot, Take Three of Four From Ranked Opponent

They took on the number 20 ranked College of Southern Nevada Coyotes in back-to-back doubleheaders last Friday and Saturday. February 12 (Game 1): Aztecs 8, Coyotes 9 In a very rocky start for the Aztecs, Pima found themselves in the hole 9-2 going into the bottom of the fifth inning in game one of their first double header. Freshman pitcher Wilson Bannister gave up four runs in the first inning of his first start of the season. He was taken out in the top of the 5th after allowing a home run and nine runs in 4.1 innings.. By Nate Martinez By now, one would have to be living under a rock to not know that COVID-19 really hindered college athletics. Many student athletes in the United States had their seasons cut drastically short thanks to the virus. For some, this is heartbreaking, but they can look forward to another chance to play next season. For others, this may have been the last year of eligibility to make one more run at a potential championship. Things seemed to have hit an all time low for student athletes across the United States until a recent decision by the NJCAA (National Junior College Athletic Association). The hits keep on coming for the Pima Community College baseball team as the Aztecs have started the season on fire, stinging together an 11-0 record at home to start the season. The Aztecs would sweep the El Paso Community College Tejanos in their four game set taking both Friday and Saturday double-headers, outscoring the Tejanos 38-9. The Aztecs struggle across finish line

By ANGEL CANEZ Pima Community College played their final home series in a doubleheader on March 23 against conference for Arizona Western Community College and wrapped up there season on the road to take on South Mountain in a doubleheader. Pima improved on last seasons record of 21-31 and 11-29 in conference games, winning 15 more games to finish the year with a 36-19 and 22-16 in conference. This has been Pima’s most wins since 1993. The Aztecs would drop the final two games of the season against South Mountain on the road getting out scored 13-1. Losing the first game 7-1 the Cougars jumped out to a 6-0 lead. Aztecs keeps the momentum going

BY ANGEL CANEZ The Pima Community College Baseball team hasn’t let its foot off the pedal in the last month. The Aztecs’ record is 20-9-1, including a 13-5 record at home during that span. The team has won 9 of its last 13. Phillip Sikes and Austin Bryan both won ACCAC Player (Sikes) and Pitcher (Bryan) of the Week for April 8-14. Sikes batted .533 during that span with five RBI and five run scored to go along with two stolen bases. Bryan was 2-0 during the week giving up one run in ten innings along with 15 strikouts. Aztec Baseball continues hot streak

By ANGEL CANEZ The Aztecs won 10 out of their last 13 games including a six-game win streak and going 7-0 at home during that stretch. The team improved its record to 26-12 and 12-9 in conference play. The Aztecs had previously dropped four of six the week before. Freshman JJ Rollon won the ACCAC Division I player of the week for the week of March 25-31, hitting a .476 at the plate. Brian Romero Pima’s freshmen first baseman won the ACCAC Division I Player of the Week for February 18-24. This marked the second consecutive week an Aztec player has won the ACCAC Division I Player of the Week award as Philp Skies took it home for the week of February 11-17 . This also marked the third Aztec player to win an award this season as Pitcher Astin Bryan won ACCAC Division I pitcher of the Week for the week of February 11-17 as well. Game 1 and 2 of the Coyote Classic vs. tournament host Col- lege of Southern Nevada (Feb. 8)The Aztecs played two double headers in Henderson, Nevada, on Feb. 8 and 9.
