Aztecs Volleyball Drops Two Matches at Yavapai College

By Raymond Suarez The Pima Community College volleyball team (0-7) played two matches on Friday at Yavapai College (10-5). Sophomore Aydalis Felix (Rincon HS) totaled 46 digs in the two matches while sophomore Eve Pearson (Canyon del Oro HS) finished the day with 13 kills. Match 1: Yavapai College Roughriders 3, Pima CC Aztecs 0 (25-8, 25-19, 25-16): The Aztecs fell behind early in the first set dropping 13 of the first 16 points but in the second set they took an early lead. With the score tied at 6-6, the Roughriders scored five straight points to take the lead for good. Photo by Raymond Suarez By Nate Martinez The men and women’s golf team kicked their season off with the Mesa Invitational Tournament on February 15-16. Overall, the men’s team failed to place. However, freshman Connor Wierman from Ironwood Ridge High School finished in 16th place individually. He posted a score of 76 on the first day and 73 the next. Andrew Rivas, the freshman from Canyon Del Oro High School, finished 24th overall, shooting an impressive par 72 on his first day. He struggled on the second day, shooting an 81 for an overall of 153. Sophomore Jackson Williams, also from Ironwood Ridge, put up a score of 193.  The women’s team had a lackluster day as well. Aztecs Start Season Hot, Take Three of Four From Ranked Opponent

They took on the number 20 ranked College of Southern Nevada Coyotes in back-to-back doubleheaders last Friday and Saturday.  February 12 (Game 1): Aztecs 8, Coyotes 9 In a very rocky start for the Aztecs, Pima found themselves in the hole 9-2 going into the bottom of the fifth inning in game one of their first double header. Freshman pitcher Wilson Bannister gave up four runs in the first inning of his first start of the season. The hits keep on coming for the Pima Community College baseball team as the Aztecs have started the season on fire, stinging together an 11-0 record at home to start the season.
