When the Aztec Press released Issue 2 on March 12, there was one reported case in Maricopa County. Now, we have surpassed 1500 cases across the entire state, with 32 related deaths. These numbers do not include those with pending tests, nor do they account for those carrying the virus who lack access to testing. Pima County saw its first COVID-19 related death March 23. It was a woman in her 50s who likely had preexisting conditions that increased her susceptibility to the virus. The county had declared an emergency in unincorporated areas on March 19. “It’s here. PCC holds Respiratory Care Conference at Downtown Campus

By DRAEDON LEDBETTER The Arizona State Society for Respiratory Care held a conference April 3 in the Amethyst Room on Pima Community College’s Downtown Campus. The event ran from 9 a.m.-4:30 p.m. “This is one of my proudest moments in my 14 years of affiliation with the respiratory therapy program at Pima Community College,” said Pima Respiratory Care Program Director Jeffrey Miller. Miller has left Pima as of April 5 to be the respiratory therapy manager at Tucson Medical Center. Russell Schmidt is taking over Pima’s respiratory care program. Helping others find their peace of mind

The number of college students who have reported depression has more than doubled since the year 2000, according to the American College Health Association in October. These are stressful times for students right now around midterms. However, Pima Community College offered a helping hand to those in need. A self-care event took place on Feb. 19 at the Downtown Campus to address these concerns.
