AGNELLOPima Post For those who live in Tucson, the Gem and Mineral Show is a busy, well-known event that’s often an inconvenience for regular commuters.  As someone who has attended the Gem Show, I can say that it certainly is interesting. However, colorful crystals have never really been my forte.  For people who might feel the same way, there is another show that has been running in Tucson for the past 20 years: the Tucson Reptile and Amphibian Show. Pima Community College takes on the fashion world 

By EMILY GASTELUMPima Post  Students at Pima Community College that are taking fashion courses will get the opportunity to showcase their creations.  This is open to any student that is in the beginning, to advance fashion courses, this will be an event that will allow students to express their creativity. This will be a partnership with Goodwill Industries International Inc. from the “upcycling clothing project” that is completed by textiles students. The free event will be in person with limited VIP seating for $50, and it also will be live-streamed on PCCTV’s YouTube page located here. Pima County Fair returns after 3 years

Many people are excited to see that it has made its comeback.  The fair started April 21, and it has brought back many memories post-pandemic along with joy and excitement. This year’s fair started off slowly, but as days have progressed, more crowds are arriving to enjoy funnel cakes and giant turkey legs. The Pima County Fair not only provides amazing and thrilling rides, but it also provides great concert entertainment. As the fair continues, it has different artists on different days. Robert Fieseler comes to PCC virtually 

By EMILY GASTELUM Pima Community College’s Diversity, Equity and Inclusion office is welcoming author/journalist Robert W. Fieseler virtually on Thursday, April 7. The New Orleans resident wrote “Tinderbox: The Untold Story of the Up Stairs Lounge Fire and the Rise of Gay Liberation,” a book about a tragedy that claimed the lives of 32 gay people on June 24, 1973. He will discuss that event in a talk titled “Reclaiming the Fire: The Lost History of New Orleans’ 1973 Upstairs Lounge Arson.” Fieseler won the 2020 Columbia University Journalism School First Decade award as well as the 2019 NLGJA (National Lesbian and Gay Journalist Association) Journalist of the Year.  For anyone interested in joining the free virtual talk, it will start at 1 p.m. Thursday via Zoo...

Pima club to help homeless— and you can, too

By EMILY GASTELUMPima Post Volunteers are needed as Pima Honors Club is hosting RISE 2022 March 17 and 18 to help the homeless. The Honors Club is looking for volunteers to make care packages as well as to be a community resource and to provide food for the needy.  The club will host a meeting from 3 to 4 p.m. March 15 to discuss the planning of future meetings for RISE. Those who are interested can check out the Pima Engage link to join via Zoom. Volunteers can report at noon until 3 p.m. March 17 at the Amethyst Room in Downtown Campus for the set-up of the event, which will include making the care packages. The free program helps first-year students learn more about majors they might be interested in pursuing.
