The Witching Weekly: 12/20

By Ruby Maldonado

Hey everyone! Welcome back to the Witching Weekly! Not only will this week be quite different, but it will also be the last column until mid-late January. I’m taking some time over winter break to do some new things and work on all my unfinished crochet projects and all the books I want to read! But that also means that I’ll have more time for personal readings or tips, so if that’s something you’re interested in, please reach out!

For this week, I will not be doing a tarot reading. I wanted to talk about some easy, everyday or once a week rituals that anyone can do. I think one of the biggest things that keeps people from starting a journey in witchcraft is thinking that they’re not doing it “aesthetically” enough, that if it doesn’t look like the Pinterest witches with mood boards and perfectly shaped crystals, it’s not real witchcraft. Fortunately though, witchcraft can be really, really simple or really complex, it’s all in what you prefer. If you stutter during a spell, or forget to put out your crystals during a full moon (things I’ve done MANY a time), it’s not the end of the world. Research the moon phases, and place your crystals in the window during another phase that you connect with. If you stutter, it doesn’t matter; the Universe knows your intentions.

Another thing I have found is people worry about how expensive jars and sage and crystals and things like that are, and it keeps them from starting or keep going. The fun thing though, is that you can use things like old cups and mugs, matches and rocks and sticks you find outside or get from other people. Witchcraft is so accessible, and it’s fun to do when you finally realize that.

Some of my favorite morning rituals are putting cinnamon in my coffee, or making it with moon water. If I don’t have a lot of time, I’ll say a small spell and add cinnamon to my coffee if it’s already made. But if I have time, I will use leftover moon water in the coffee maker and maybe draw a tarot card while I wait. Little things like that, even if that’s all you do during the day, it’s still enough if it means something to you. On my days off, I clean out my room or my desk and cleanse the whole area with white sage, or leave some incense burning. I prefer the sticks, but the cones work well too. I like to leave my crystals on the desk, usually quartz and amethyst. I like to open all the windows and curtains and meditate at least once a week, if not more. I’m usually pretty busy, but one time is still good enough. Things you can do everyday, especially right before bed, is visualizing and journaling. It can be about anything, for health, beauty, healing, etc. You can journal about your witchcraft journey, or things you want to learn about or do later. It’s up to you!

I really hope you found something to take with you this week!!
