This Week’s Past Flood Warnings for Tucson

Across Arizona this week flood warnings were issued, as long rains were expected to bring 1-3 inches of rain. Tropical moisture continued to increase as Hurricane Priscilla moved closer to Mexico’s west coast.

High chances of rain ranging from 50-70% were expected all weekend. While most Tucsonans welcome the rain, they also must be properly prepared. The city and county offered free sandbags at stations around the area. In Tucson sand bags were available at the east Parking Lot of Hi-Corbett Field, 700 S. Randolph Way.

The expectation of rain caused the cancellation of events all across the city, such as Phocus Law Steve Paulauskis Memorial Race, at Tucson Dragway on Oct. 11. The AFL (Arizona Fall League) has also cancelled the triple header set to be at Kino Veterans Memorial Stadium scheduled for Saturday, Oct. 11, 2025. The event was meant to be Tucson’s first appearance in 20 years featuring in the league.

Currently no rescheduling has been made, however tickets can be exchanged for an Arizona Fall League Home Run Derby on Nov. 8 and the Fall Stars Game on Nov. 9. Ticketholder can also receive a full refund through the original method of purchase. The AFL has also said they will attempt to make up the games in the near future.

That isn’t the only sporting event potentially suffering from these high rains. The U of A and BYO were set to play last Saturday at the football stadium. No statement has been made about the status of the game yet. However, last month when bad weather rolled in on Sept. 6, the game was delayed about 2 hours, officially starting at 9:10 p.m. instead of the planned 7 p.m. By this point many people had left and stands across the stadium were closing early.

With 60-70 degree weather being expected for the next week, many of us are thankful for this break in the heat. Just remember to be safe and prepared for flooding. A car can be carried away in 10-12 inches of rain with only 6 inches of flash flood rain needed to knock over the average person. Thankfully nothing that high was estimated for this last weekend.
