While it’s still hot, local Arizonans need to beat the heat with fun activities and cold drinks to share. One place that residents frequent is Stacks Book Club.

Owner of Stacks Book Club, Jeffrey Crispin, chatted with The Pima Post about his shop and experience in the Oro Valley community.

Q: What was the inspiration for opening the shop?

A: We wanted to do something closer to home, and more suburb-based

Q: Where did the name ‘Stacks’ come from?

A: Stacks was the name of my home book club, and the first book we read was Ready Player One, in which the main character lives in a neighborhood called the Stacks.

Q: Is it more of a coffee shop or a book club?

A: Folks come in for coffee and pastries, browse the books and check out the local gift table.

Q: Where do you get your books?

A: We have representatives with all the major publishers. They give us the books that they think will sell. We’re also trying to find the books you haven’t heard of, to make it a more unique experience.

Q: What separates Stacks from other chains?

A: The community nature. The staff gets to know the customers on a deeper level.

Q: What is the most popular drink?

A: Nothing will ever beat the vanilla latte. We put out a seasonal menu every three to four months.

Q: What else is on the menu?

A: Lattes, matcha, chai, signature nitro cold brew, sparkling lemonade.

Q: What’s been the biggest challenge?

A: Summers in Tucson are probably the biggest challenge. The foot traffic drops.

Q: What is a goal that you hope Stacks can achieve?

A: I want the kids of this community to not realize how special Stacks is until they’re gone.

Q: What advice would you give to a new entrepreneur

A: When you start very small, you can test your idea. Do that over time, and you’ll know that idea is solid enough to take that leap.
