PCC Women’s Volleyball looks to smooth out rocky start

After starting the season 3-2, the Aztecs have had a rocky start in September, dropping two straight games in Thatcher, Arizona. 

Sept. 18: Arizona Western 3, PCC 1

The Aztecs started out strong, winning the first set, but then they dropped three straight sets to Arizona Western 23-25, 25-17, 25-17, 25-17. This was the third straight conference loss for the Aztecs. 

Madi Nash finished with 9 kills and 15 digs, while freshman Bergen Campbell had 7 kills, 10 digs and 3 blocks. Sophomore Emily Robinson posted 7 kills and 5 blocks.

  Freshman Kaitlyn Cook finished with a double-double of 22 assists and 13 digs, while sophomore Grace Adams had 17 digs. Freshman Aydalis Felix posted 15 digs.

Sept. 11: Yavapai 3, PCC 0

Aztecs fell in straight sets to the No. 19-ranked Roughriders 25-20, 25-18, 25-7.

Sophomore Kendall Deeter finished the match with 6 kills and 2 blocks for the Aztecs.

Sept. 6: PCC 3, College of Southern Nevada 1

After dropping the last three, the Aztecs (4-5) returned to their winning ways at home against in non-conference College of Southern Nevada in four sets 25-23, 25-16, 23-25, 25-13. 

The Aztecs opened strong with a 7-point lead, but the Coyotes fought back to tie the match 15-15 and eventually took over. 

Freshman Savanna White and sophomore Kaleigh Hockett finished with 28 assists, 10 kills, 3 aces and 3 digs. Sophomore Nash led the team with 13 kills, 7 digs, 2 blocks and 1 ace. 

Sept. 4: Mesa Community College 3, PCC 1

The Aztecs tied the game after the second set before falling short to MCC 25-19, 25-27, 25-21, 25-23. 

Nash finished with a double-double (15 kills, 17 digs). Sophomore Robinson posted 9 kills and 4 blocks. Freshman White had 8 kills and 7 blocks, while fellow freshman Felix finished with 16 digs.

Sept. 2: Utah State Eastern 3, PCC 0

 The Aztecs fell to Utah State University-Eastern (10-2) in straight sets 25-19, 25-19, 25-17.

In their second match of the day, the Aztecs lost to Eastern Arizona College (6-6) in four sets 25-13, 22-25, 25-22, 25-19.
