Point Shaver: NFL’s Week 12

By JOSHUA SHAVERPima Post  If you are struggling with a gambling addiction, call 1-800-522-4700. Welcome back to Point Shaver. Since the start of Point Shaver, I have a 60% or higher win percentage every week.  Buffalo Bills vs. New Orleans Saints (Bills -5.5) Both the Saints and Bills are coming off big losses against .500 teams, but the Bills will bounce back and destroy the Saints. The Saints’ offense is very limited and are going against a very good Bills defense. The Bills have a more complete team and obviously a better quarterback with Josh Allen. The Bills win in a blowout and cover, 31-17. Dallas Cowboys vs. Las Vegas Raiders (Raiders +8) I am a Cowboys fan, but I am not an idiot. The Cowboys are on a short week and will be without their two starting wide re...

Thoughts about Week 2 of The Loft Film Fest – and a bonus ‘Julia’ review

By JAVIER DOSAMANTESPima Post “Julia”Directed by: Julie Cohen and Betsy WestRating: PG -13Run time: 1 hour, 35 minutesOpens at The Loft Cinema Nov. 24 Ending parties is a cross between an artform and a sport — it's social gymnastics — and you have to stick the landing.  Everything can go wrong, and if it does, people will remember the end instead of the rest of the festivities. Parties run the risk of going on for too long and plateau, someone can get into a fight or argument, you can start playing the wrong kind of music and people will fall asleep or walk out, etc. Hosts have to perfectly execute the move of telling guests it's over in a way they leave with a smile and good memories.  Party hosts also have to walk the thin line of choosing the right playl...

Pima Men’s Soccer wins second national championship

Pima Men's Soccer pose for a team photo with their trophy at their championship celebration. Story and photo by NATE MARTINEZPima Post The 2021 Pima Community College Men’s Soccer team can now call itself national champions. The Aztecs won an overtime thriller Saturday at Wichita, Kansas, against the CCBC Essex Knights on penalty kicks by a score of 3-2. The second half was highly competitive. Despite both teams attempting multiple shots, neither was able to score, putting the match into Golden Goal time. Golden Goal time is when a 10-minute period of extra time is added at the end of a tied match. The team that scores next is the winner. If the game is still tied after 10 minutes, another period of extra time is to be played with the same rules. The match is then determ...

In the second half, Delaney Buntin intercepted a misplaced pass by the goalkeeper and scored to give the Aztecs a brief...

Why we’re getting punched by the pump

By ALEX JIMENEZPima Post Photo courtesy of herzogbr is licensed under CC BY-NC-SA 2.0 Gas prices across the nation have been rising for months, and it’s affecting all of our wallets. The reasoning behind the rising prices, however, is not so simple. According to AAA, the national average per gallon is $3.41 on Nov. 18. Arizona’s average is sitting at $3.72, which is 31 cents over the national average.  Per usual, Tucson’s average per gallon is lower than the rest of the state at $3.55, while Phoenix has an average of $3.79 and Flagstaff tops Arizona’s prices at $3.84. There hasn’t been a national average this high since June 2014, when a gallon of gas was $3.72. In fact, Arizona tops the nation in the highest week-over-week increase at the pump, with an 8-cent jump....

The Word: How have rising gas prices affected you?

By Josh BaileyPima Post As prices continue to rise almost daily, Americans are pinning the blame on a plethora of figures and circumstances. Even while our representatives initiate discussions within the government about the crisis, such as the Biden administration seeking cooperation with the Federal Trade Commission to ensure gouging by fuel giants is not taking place, little action has been taken to effectively change the current trajectory of oil prices. Others argue it is simply the markets, and while the country remains divided on the topic practical plans have still yet to be put in place to prevent the average price per gallon from reaching five dollars in western states like California and Arizona. Alex Jimenez has more on rising gas prices. I asked people on West Campus...

Point Shaver: NFL’s Week 11

By JOSHUA SHAVERPima Post  If you are struggling with a gambling addiction, call 1-800-522-4700. Welcome back to Point Shaver. I had missed last week because of being sick, but we are back to helping you win money on football spreads. I predict a 60% win rate every week. GreenBay Packers vs. Minnesota Vikings (Packers -2.5) Both teams are coming off a big win, but the Packers shut out the Seahawks who had Russell Wilson back. The Packers defense is becoming one of the best defenses in the league. In back-to-back games, the team held the Chiefs under 14 and held the Seahawks to a goose egg. Aaron Rodgers has had a quiet but really efficient year with 17 touchdowns and just 4 interceptions. Division games are always close, so I think the Packers win and cover in a close game, 2...

Top 9 Mexican food and drinks you must have this fall

Story and photos taken by CARLOS MIRANDAPima Post It's that time of the year again … the fall/winter season.  That means bring all the food, desserts and drinks our way. This season, these are the nine Mexican/Hispanic food, desserts and drinks you should try/enjoy at least one time. Posole Posole is a soup that has some type of shredded meat, pork or chicken. It also has lots of hominy, which are whole kernels of dried field corn. Sometimes people add pinto beans. Posole is best served with toasted buttered bread or tortilla. And you don't have to, but people like to garnish the soup with lime, cilantro, green onion or regular onion, cabbage, radishes and spicy chili flakes. This dish is best to eat on a nice cold day or even at family gatherings. Buñuelos B...
