How high is too high? Marijuana potency in Tucson

Photo courtesy Wikimedia user Felix Brünnimann By JOSH BAILEY Pima Post Since recreational marijuana usage in Arizona was legalized at the start of 2021, the state has had various businesses take root that specialize in producing professional-grade cannabis. Most of these were outcroppings of earlier medical-orientated production companies and patents. Although state law and the Arizona Department of Health dictate that edibles for recreational sale cannot contain more than 100 milligrams of Tetrahydrocannabinol (THC), patients with a medical card are able to purchase higher potency marijuana ranges from 200-1,000 mg in a single edible. Federal law mandates that any marijuana product, which contains an overall THC concentration of more than 10%, is classified as a “high-poten...

A new frontier in the Old West

By JAVIER DOSAMANTES  “The Power of the Dog”Directed by: Jane CampionRating: RRun time: 2 hours, 6 minutesOpens at The Loft Cinema Dec. 10 and is currently streaming on Netflix In Michael Mann's "Heat," Robert de Niro's character tells his love interest, "I'm alone, I am not lonely."  Throughout "The Power of the Dog," a psychological drama set in the Old West, I kept thinking about that quote. Everyone in this film is not alone, but they are lonely. Nobody's happy where they are, with whom they are, or with whom they are not. One character rejects society and longs for his brother's love in their mentor's absence. Meanwhile, the other brother wants to be accepted by society and rejects their way of life. A widow who terrifyingly coexists with her new brother-in...

Photo courtesy PCC AthleticsMarcus Smith gives pointers to Pima Community College golfer Andrew Rivas before a putt during the 2020-2021 golf season. By ALEX JIMENEZPima Post After being appointed as Pima Community College’s golf coach early 2020, Marcus Smith became NJCAA’s youngest head coach. Although it was a big accomplishment, the only surprise for him was how soon this opportunity came.  “I’ve always known I wanted to be a coach ... I did not know I'd do it this young, though,” said Pima Community College golf coach Smith, age 21. Smith started off his head coaching career before most would even consider helping out as an assistant coach or taking coaching courses. However, he did not begin golfing as early as you may expect.  “I started golf pretty lat...

Point Shaver: NFL’s Week 13

By JOSHUA SHAVERPima Post  If you are struggling with a gambling addiction, call 1-800-522-4700. Welcome back to Point Shaver. Since the start of Point Shaver, I have a 60% or higher win percentage every week. Last week we went 80% and we are looking to keep that same success this week. Dallas Cowboys vs. New Orleans Saints (Cowboys -5.5) Cowboys coming off a two-game skid against the Chiefs and the Raiders but they were without their marquee wide receivers. The Saints are on the longest losing streak in the NFL and will be without arguably their best player Alvin Kamara and both their offensive tackles. I don’t trust Taysom Hill to do much offensively without his best two weapons, and I see the Cowboys causing a couple turnovers. The Cowboys will bounce back and win on Thur...

Brews with Hutch: Barrio Brewing Co.

Barrio Brewing Co. sells flights of 5-ounce pours for $6. Patrons may sample any of 12 standard and 4 rotating beers on draft. Story and photo by TROY HUTCHISONPima Post The craft beer scene around the country has taken off and the number of local breweries has climbed over the years in Tucson.  With the number of breweries increasing in the city, I decided to go around town and share my thoughts on some breweries.  First on the list is one of the oldest breweries in Tucson. Barrio Brewing Co. was established in 1991 as part of a small restaurant called Gentle Ben’s Brewing. About 15 years ago, Barrio Brewing split off into its own building at 800 E. 16th St. Dennis and Tauna Arnold originally owned both businesses, but in recent years, Barrio Brewing has becom...
